The Ayurvedic secret to healthy, beautiful hair starts by nourishing the hair with oils and scalp massages. Scalp massages not only feel great but are important for maintaining optimum health. It’s a known fact that your scalp is healthiest when it's clean, but at times, it may need a little stimulation to keep any potential problems from surfacing. Scalp massaging stimulates nerves, helps increase blood flow and positively effects your overall well-being. Scalp massages are great for tension and stress, and a good massage is often a quicker remedy to a headache than a pain reliever.
For centuries in India, scalp massaging techniques have been used to prevent illness and restore good health. It has even been shown that the stimulation of follicles promotes blood flow, which in turn helps hair grow faster.
Herbal and natural hair oils make up a major part of Ayurveda. We recommend using MaaDisha's hair oil, which is applied to your fingertips and gently worked into your scalp. It is important to use heral hair oils similar to our Oil6, so that they are easy to rinse out. Otherwise, you will end up with greasy hair that can be difficult to wash.
Here is how to give yourself a scalp massage at home:
- Part the hair down the center and apply the warm oil mixture to the scalp with your fingers.
- Work in small sections down the sides of the head, then the back making sure the oil covers the entire scalp.
- Give your scalp a good massage. Rub with the pads of your fingers in a circular motion all over the scalp for 5 to 10 minutes. Apply some pressure, but don’t press so hard that it hurts.
-
Shampoo and condition, rinse, and seal the ends of the hair with a drop of oil.
If you like, you can leave the oil in on overnight. We recommend you use a shower cap and cover your pillow with a towel.
